At NeuroConverse, we believe that the world is a better place when we all have the resources we need to thrive. And this means that we want to flip that old medical model of disability on its side. But we're not stopping there. We really want to shake things up. So, we want to turn that social model of disability inside out too! Rather than rely on an individual to navigate a "typical" paradigm (medical model) or even waiting for the paradigm to adapt to the individual ADA needs, let's really get inclusive.
Founder, J. Eli Hatton, challenges us to think beyond the lens of diagnosed disability and to think instead about how to harness our unique different abilities. This is naturally inclusive of persons without formal diagnosis as well as persons with impact from their various intersectionalities.
At NeuroConverse, we don't believe in a binary spectrum, founded in a linear calculation. Rather, we believe that all of our various abilities come with impact in a 3-dimentional, color-wheel of a spectrum with varying support needs, creating a complex, beautiful nebulous of your ability identity, and therefore, a Jackson Pollock of resources that you can use individually, and in collaboration with peers, colleagues, partners, friends, family and self.
J. Eli Hatton is a public speaker, organizational consultant and self-advocate. Diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) in her 30s, J. Eli has done the work she needed to embrace her neurodiversity and leverage her unique thoughts and skills to be a successful worker, student, parent, partner, friend and self.
J. Eli Hatton is originally from the midwest of the United States. Having moved around a bit, she attained her undergrad at the University of Kentucky with a Bachelors of Arts dual-majoring in Foreign Languages & International Economics, with a minor in Psychology. She went on to achieve a Masters of Science in Taxation from Northern Illinois University.
J. Eli is married to long-time partner, Stuart, with whom she shares 2 small children (Otis and Mabel), 2 dogs (Ernie & Chuck), and a beautiful garden that they all work on together. After spending time throughout the midwest of the US, a short while in Nicaragua and a few years in Denver, they have settled into the western suburbs of Chicago as their home base.
